Bruce Dellit
was one of Art Deco's finest exponents, and this is probaby his
best commercial buildings. The stepped pinnacles at the top of
the building togethre with the powerful verticle elements and
massive red granite arch epitomize the dynamic modernity which
Art Deco sought to express. The recessed façade within
the arch is replete with rich decorative narrative elements, which
typically for Australian Art Deco, represent notions of an Australian
arcadia. Along with carved stone relief, the entry contains large
sculpted bronze doors by the sculpto, H.T. Worrall. The decorative
extravaganc is continued internally with a rich detailed foyer
and a ground floor banking chamber with an exotic vaulted ceiling.
