ACI Factory
Former Australian Glass Manufacturers (AGM)
Cnr Lachlan and South Dowling Streets, Waterloo
c. 1940 attrib. in part to Stephenson H Turner and AGM staff

The largest and most important factory complex of its day, Australian Glass Manufacturers promoted the modern spirit in building design (European Modernism), which used far greater glass areas than traditional buildings. The design would sit well in 1930s Berlin, with its highly composed corner elements and dramatic horizontal window lines. Although Sir Arthur Stephenson was AGM's architect, designing AGM House (1936-38) in William Street, it is more likely that this factory was designed and built over a number of years by AGM themselves, following sketches by Stephenson Ft Turner.
